Updated Lobster Season Regulations!

Posted under Uncategorized

Many of you may have received a pamphlet & letter in the mail from the California Department of Fish & Game recently concerning the new spiny lobster season rules & regulations for 2013-14.  For those who have not;  the changes have to do with the Lobster report card. Many hunters never turned in their report cards, especially those who took no lobster. So now starting this season if you do not return your report card by April 30th 2014 the California DFG will access a non -refundable fee of $20.00, applying this fee to the cost of your next seasons license. The other change is the report card will be valid for the full spiny lobster season from Sept. 28th 2013 thru March 19 2014 not just the calender year as before.

Red Abalone Protection

Posted under Uncategorized

California Fish & Game took action in June to modify abalone fishing regulations along the Northern California coast. The commission voted to limit abalone harvesting to be limited to a season total of 18 instead of 24 & no more than 9 taken from Sonoma or Marin counties. Other changes to this regulation are a coast wide start time of 8am & a complete closure at Ft. Ross in Sonoma county. The declines in Abalone density have triggered these changes.

Dances With Sea Bass

Posted under Uncategorized

Our Friday get away boat trip turned out awesome! Smooth crossing, blue water & Catalina was on. First dive was around mid east of the Island just north west of Hen rock. Visibility was 30-40ft. unless you stirred up the fleet of bat rays that were everywhere. Water temp was mostly 68 degrees but down at 90ft. we found 58 degrees! The highlight of that dive was that we had a Giant Black seabass brigade come & do a curious swim by. With rebreathers they are more than curious as I was able to pet one for the first time! Breath hold divers & skip breathers get close but your never able to touch one & we were able to stroke one like a big big puppy dog! Second dive was Long Point always a place for excitement off the point with its steep drops & strong currents producing copious amounts of Marine life. Good trip, good diving!
